Mebitek draws electronic soundscapes, experiences and takes us in a new sound often linked to the environment, the Sardinian culture that transforms and spreads beyond the sea. All original, all “handmade” in sardinia how often keen to point out, all in self-production. A craftsman of the sound that creates every artifact with great taste and skill. N Mebitek and his personal ID card

Mebitek was born as an artistic entity in 2003 in Bologna, a musical evolution of young projects (dating back to the 1994) computer-based music and symphonic black metal. In Bologna, the varied and stimulating environment introduced me to various kind of electronic music and brought in contact with the electronic undeground world especially in reality like Level 57, Lazzaretto, the world of Free Party and TAZ.

N The evolution of your music

My music has changed and matured over the years, starting from the underground tekno tribe and then get to more elaborate sounds based on electro, ambient and cinematic music. This evolution was natural is a kind of return to the origins (as a kid I was writing with Cakewalk 4 a black metal sequencing electronic music where some friends plays the guitar riffs) then with more knowledge of instruments (DAW, drum machines, mixing and mastering techniques, sound design).

N Your production station

Being a fan of computers and technology my workstation is always evolving. Starting from drum machines (korg emx and roland MC505) to a full computer based instrumentation. I actually use Native Instruments suite (Maschine + Komplete) combined with ableton live and some virtual instruments (Output Sounds) always perfectly integrated with the NI suites.

N The project Mustayonis

The Mustayonis project started a few years ago through the historic collaboration with my partner and friend Pandro. The project is still evolving and aims through electronic art (music + video) to raise awareness of the historical and national consciousness of Sardinia trying to get out from the usual cliches that shackle the Sardinian culture only as an ancient and immobile world. We are currently working hard for the realization of our first single and an EP that should see the light this coming summer.

N Sardinia, your country

Sardinia for me it’s an uncontrollable love. Salvation, suffering and passion. I can’t leave it. I will never be able to. Mogoro my country, is my reference point to protect and save. I grew up here and came back after so many years as emigrated.

N We are a nation without a state, utopian dream or real path

Is our only way to survive. It’s just a matter of time.

N Have you been for a long time “disterrau” (immigrant), you have decided to come back …

After 11 years of “Disterru” I couldn’t stay still far away from my island. Mine was an obvious choice, dictated by my constant thought about Sardinia. When I left, I was 18 years old, I have always lived my experience as emigrant. If I had the opportunity to study here in the island I do not know if I’d never left. This doesn’t mean that all the years off the island have enriched me and made me grown.
