Gianluca Ganga aka Flub is a Sardinian artist, producer and songwriter, who works between Sardinia and UK. His musical production aim to constantly search for different sound samples and it is available in all the principal digital stores. Flub shows us how our island can produce avant-garde music, which crosses the sea spreading suggestions and funk and synth grooves.

N: “Leave your sign” is your last single (available in all the main digital stores): which message did you want to send and how this production started?
The production starts form a mix of influences. It was a pretty quiet time of my life and I could think about all the projects I had on my mind, while being inspired listening to the disco and funk and Acid Jazz classical like Jamiroquai, Breakbot and many other artists.I started producing this single because I wanted to dance and the funk was my switch, its rhythm reflects the willing of a young and ambitious man, who during a night out thinks about what he could do for leaving his sign in the world. He then starts to think to climb to the highest mountain and sign it with his name: I think it is the most utopian dream or ambition of all the people in the world.
N: Musical categories are too strict for someone like you, who experiments music totally, but how would you define your music? What is most inspiring for you?
It’s hard to define what I do. If I have to mention all of my sources of inspiration it would take ages to find all the artists and genres. My music aims to melt different stiles from jazz/blues, funk to the contemporary electronic music. One thing is certain, my productions have always a shadow from the 80s. Main source of inspiration is my life, what I see with my own eyes every day and what happens in this planet. I like to think that music, real music, can change people for good, in a system in which now everyone is an individualist, full of prejudice, with no empathy at all. If we really want to try to describe my style I’d say that it is mainly a mix of Synth wave, Synth Pop, vapor wave, funk, soul and abstract hip hop.
N: “Leave Your Sign” then, where we can listen and support your work ?
Leave your sign is available in all digital stores like iTunes, Amazon, Deezer, Apple music and Spotify. On Youtube you can listen to a preview and a Little teaser clip in which I perform the track.
N: We’ve heard the word producer very often, but you also sing and actually write your songs so in this case can we define yourself also as a “songwriter”?
The word producer is wrongly used, because it seems now there’s no difference between a beat-maker and a composer. Don’t get me wrong, they are both artists but a composer works also on commission for a third party. When I produce my stuff, I create every single fragment of it including the lyrics, so yes I can define myself as a songwriter, a kind of electronic one.
N: Your new single is a prelude of your first album. Tell us about this project realized with the Nootempo factory.
My album is the description of a time of my life, in which I faced big changes in my private sphere. You will hear different sounds different styles , I see them as different roads that we take in every day in our life. I started one night and finished after months of sleepless nights. I’ve been followed by Nootempo from the beginning , each track has been analyzed and carefully listened until we reached the equilibrium. Nootempo is made by artists with the intent to be recognized also beyond “limits”. My experience in UK opened my vision in terms of inspiration influencing me radically in the last 2 years of production, as you can hear in my recent releases. Without Nootempo, my family, friends and my brother Gangalistics all of this would never happened. I think it will be an adventure , this is a debut album and if everything goes well will be out in autumn.
N: Which labels in your opinion are producing good music and which are your favorites ?
I can mention loads of labels that are producing good and true avant-garde contemporary music. I’ll start with Ninja Tune, Warp, Brainfeeder, Future classics. There’s also Ed Banger Records, which produces artists like Breakbot that still maintains a cool funk/disco mood. Also Ultimae records is a Swedish label more on ambient and electronica (Carbon Based Life Form is one of my favorite). Ghostly International has produced Com Truise, which is one of the main protagonist in the 80s worldwide wave. I think that’s quite a lot as a hint. For the rest I highly recommend, if anyone is interested, to dig and try to discover more.
