Un viaggio è desiderio di conoscenza, confronto con altre realtà, passione e spirito “puro”, in una ricerca musicale che anima questa nuova intervista analogica. Un percorso che parte dalla Sardegna e arriva fino in Uk, quello del Nuorese Dj Dras, fatto di esperienze e interazioni col tessuto underground.

N: Presentati con una tua piccola scheda personale
Sandro Rocchigiani,nome d’arte DJ Dras, nato a Nuoro il 30 novembre 1984. Mi sono avvicinato al mondo del djing a 16 anni e sono stato particolarmente attratto dal turntablism e dall’arte dello scratch. Successivamente ho sviluppato una grande passione per numerosi generi musicali.

N: What is a dj…  

Il dj per me è colui che sa fare una performance musicale di livello abbinando conoscenza musicale e tecnica ma sopratutto deve riuscire ad instaurare una connessione con il pubblico che lo ascolta.

N: Underground e club culture
L’underground è la parte organica di qualsiasi genere musicale, è la forza e lo spirito che spinge ogni musicista, producer o dj. Dal 2009 ed ho avuto la fortuna di conoscere tanti club underground e commerciali e credo che qui, come in tutto il mondo, ci siano quelli validi e quelli meno.

N: La città in cui vivi e lavori
Risiedo in Inghilterra dal 2009, dove ho ampliato notevolmente il mio repertorio musicale. Mi sono unito ad un collettivo di DJs chiamato ‘Music Is’, grazie al quale sono entrato in contatto con DJ, compositori e cantanti di fama mondiale come Dj Devastate (Demon Boyz), Julie Dexter (Dome Records).  Da qui in poi, sono diventato un DJ resident in diversi luoghi di Londra, tra cui il “Made in Brazil”. Con il collettivo “Music-Is” ho ampliato la mia esperienza suonando per due stazioni radio online: “Music-Is Sunday Radio” e “Housedem”. Attualmente mi esibisco allo “SpunOut” e al “Club 43” a Northampton

N: Vinile o digitale ?
Preferisco comprare, collezionare e suonare in vinile forse perchè ho iniziato in questa maniera, però mi piace anche il serato scratch, è comodo se devo viaggiare ed inoltre mi da la possibilità di manipolare il suono e le traccie come meglio credo. La tecnologia moderna è bella e meno dispendiosa ma secondo me non bisogna essere assuefatti e sopratutto non bisogna usarla per diventare “BRAVI” subito.

N: La Sardegna nel mondo
La Sardegna ha artisti di altissimo livello, alcuni conosciuti in tutto il mondo per la loro bravura e professionalità. Nuoro, la città dove sono nato, è considerata l’Atene Sarda grazie al fermento culturale e artistico, dalla scultura alla pittura, dalla poesia alla musica. In Sardegna dovremmo essere più bravi nello stare uniti e sponsorizzarci per diventare internazionali ma per far questo abbiamo bisogno anche di un aiuto politico e finanziario che ci manca da tanto.

Al momento sono impegnato con “BYOB UK EVENT” visual artists, abbiamo fatto la nostra prima esibizione e abbiamo intenzione di fare alcuni festival questa estate in collaborazione con altri artisti, inoltre sto producendo anche alcuni beat che presto saranno online.

A journey full of desire of knowledge, facing other realities, passion and “pure” spirit in a costant musical research. From Sardinia to the Uk, Dj Dras tells us his experience and interaction with underground tissue.

N: Introduce yourself with your ID
Sandro Rocchigiani, Dj Dras, born in Nuoro November 30, 1984. I approached the world of DJing when I was 16, focusing on turntablism and scratch. Later I developed a passion for many music genres.

N: What is a DJ …
The DJ for me must be the one who knows how to make proper performance showing the musical knowledge and technique and beeing able to establish a connection with the audience.

N: Underground and club culture in London
The underground for me is the organic part of any musical genre, the spirit that drives every musician, producer or Dj. I’ve moved in Uk since 2009 and I was lucky enough to meet many underground and commercial clubs and I think that here, as everywhere, there are good clubs and not.

N: The city where you live and work
I’ve moved here in 2009 , this new environment helped me to gain my musical repertoire. I joined a Dj collective called ‘Music Is’, thanking them I established some connections with other DJs, composers and singers well known like DJ Devastate (Demon Boyz), Julie Dexter (Dome Records). After that , I became a resident DJ in various parts of London, including the “Made in Brazil”. With the collective “Music-Is” I expanded my experience playing for two web-radios stations: “Music-Is Sunday Radio” and “Housedem”. I currently perform at the the “SpunOut” and “Club 43” in Northampton

N: Vinyl or digital?
I prefer to buy, collect and play vinyl that’s the way I started, but I also like Serato Scratch, It’s quite good if you travel and also gives the chance to manipulate sound and tracks as best I want to. Modern technology is beautiful and less expensive, but I think we don’t have to be addicted in order to to become “GOOD” and skilled immediately.

N: Sardinia in the world
Sardinia has many artists of the highest level, some of them known all around the world for their skills and quality.Nuoro, the city where I was born, is considered the Sardinian Athens for the  cultural and artistic movements, from sculpture to painting, from poetry to music. In Sardinia we should be more united to promote ourself to be recognized in the world, but to do this we also need a political and financial support.

At the moment I’m busy with “BYOB UK EVENT” visual artists, we made our first show and we plan to do some festivals this summer in collaboration with other artists, I’m also ‘producing some beats soon you will find them online.
